Not sure what to expect when hiring a photographer? Let me tell you... When you book a photographer, you want to know that you have chosen the right creative that will compliment your brand the way that you want, and really brighten your brand. I have touched on this in my previous blog, ‘What to look for when hiring a photographer’ but today I wanted to give you a little behind the scenes of what it is like to work with yours truly on a home studio photoshoot. Through this, I will deconstruct what the process looks like in the hopes that it will remove any worries you may have regarding hiring an external creator to showcase your baby (your business) in the best light possible - no pun intended! All imagery for this blog was taken from a recent photoshoot with the wonderful Sweet Eats Kitchen. These tasty treats are keto, keto/paleo (dairy free), low carb, grain free, diabetic friendly and use only the premium quality and naturally gluten free ingredients. Side note- I have now tried most of them and can guarantee they are delicious! Check them out here. Ok, are you ready? Let's hop right in! DISCOVERY CALL. The beginning of our relationship. It all starts from the initial consult discovery call where we chat about your business, your goals and your aesthetic, so we can make sure that we can create the perfect partnership. This can either be over email, direct message, video chat or simply by picking up the phone – whatever works best for you. MOOD BOARD. Next, the fun begins! Once I have researched your brand in depth, I will then compile a mood board based off what we discussed, packed full with ideas and inspirational imagery. I then send this through to you to make sure we have the same creative vision. This will include your brand colours, similar products to yours and different styles of photography around this. This will help me to gauge what you like, dislike and what images really speak to you. From there I will create a shot list to keep things running smoothly and orderly during the day of the shoot. I love to draw so I usually draw these out by hand as it allows my creativity to blossom and this is what stays with me through the shoot. WHAT ABOUT PROPS? Well, depending on what we have discussed, I cover it all. If you have specific props you would like to use then you can send these along with the products but otherwise, I will compile these based on what we are shooting and the style we are looking to portray. If you are needing props i.e fresh flowers, these will be charged on an ADHOC basis. From there, we are nearly ready to go. HOW DO YOU GET MY PRODUCTS? Well this is super easy - If we are still in lockdown, you simply post your products to me, or once life returns to semi-normality, I can either come to you, pick these up or you can drop these off. Whatever works best for you works best for me. THE SHOOT – This is where the magic truly begins. I begin by setting up my studio, with all the equipment I will need for the day, including lighting, reflectors, diffusers and anything else I require to create the perfect setting. Through the shoot, I will send you some behind the scenes shots so you are able to see how things are going and this is when you can let me know if you would like anything changed, so I can reposition the shoot to continue creating imagery from our shot list. POST PRODUCTION – Once the shoot is complete, I will then begin the post production process. I can't speak for everyone but I certainly overshoot. I tend to get a little carried away and shoot way more than is needed but I simply love shooting, Depending on the package you have chosen I will then pick the most applicable imagery based that sings true to your brand based on what we have discussed. Post production usually takes longer than the shoot itself as I want to make sure that each image is curated perfectly. COMPLETION – Once the editing is complete, I do a little happy dance and then upload these for you into an online portfolio. This is then emailed to you via private link to view and download. All links are valid for 14 days from completion so you will then have plenty of time to download these safely into a file of your choice. THE FINISHED IMAGERY - A portfolio of strong, authentic visuals which perfectly capture the bright, aesthetic my client was looking to portray for her brand. By using a variety of props, natural light and different settings I was able to capture a varied portfolio filled with engaging imagery which will be utilised across social media and web to attract my clients target audience. Are you ready to book your next shoot and elevate your business to the next level visually? Connect with me now to discuss how we can work together. I am already excited!
Ally xoxo
